Introduction: Part of being "information literate" is being able to determine whether a source of information is a reliable one. This webquest will introduce you to the idea of evaluating information through evaluating websites. Click on the first link for an entertaining intrduction to this topic.
Task: After this Webquest, you should: 1.understand why evaluating information is important. 2. use critical thinking skills and a rubric as a way to evaluate websites.
Process: 1. Individually, watch the introduction YouTube video 2. Read through the ALA pages about evaluating information. 3. Watch the second YouTube video 4. Print the Rubric for evaluating websites. 5. Get into groups of 3 or 6. In your groups read and discuss the rubric. 7. Together compare the Martin Luther King and Holocaust websites. Evaluate and discuss each of these websites. Which ones would use for a research report and why? You can fill out one rubric sheet per website and choose someone in your group to be a notetaker or writer. You may also want to choose someone else to be a speaker for your group

Evaluation: We will have a whole group discussion about your experiences evaluating these websites. We will also look at a few other sites and discuss them as a group.
Conclusion: Now that you have method for evaluating websites, you may choose your research topic and find an appropriate and reliable source of information on the internet.
